ZMAGO PUHAR was born in 1952 in Kranj, Slovenija. After high school he graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Ljubljana, Slovenija. In more than 30 years of creative work he has produced over 50 solo exhibitions in Kranj in Slovenija and European countries, notably Austria, Italy and Germany, twice as well as in New York. In addition, he participated in many group art projects, mostly in conjunction with the Art Society Kranj, Slovenija, who regularly promotes creativity in exhibitions at home and abroad. Since the degree of fine arts Zmago Puhar has been dedicated to heterogeneous activities. He is a painter, designer, graphic artist, photographer and art educator. His high expertise generous surrenders to others, especially to younger people in regional schools. Since March 2007, he performs art education of all generations in the atelier and new family business Puhart in Kranj.
As a painter, in the Slovene and the general treasury of Fine arts he wrote himself as an inventive painter with a completely unique visual language. In his paint stroke we can see exceptional talent, expertise and ability of observation and his own long-term art practise. Puhar’s works reveal the importance of the fundamental elements of visual creations - the drawing and color. His firm composition overbrim in the rhythm of life and bring us a personal, sometimes abstract views of reality, but always in a thoughtful organized art space. In the backstage of his pictures is hard work, but all seems as a game. If the color is the one of those with whom he expresses feelings, emotions and moods, then the images of Puhar live primarily with light, optimism, happiness, love. Sometimes we barely know but in his paintings the unfortunate reality is also always present at another side of life. A lot of them are what is beautiful to the eye and effect pleasing on our souls, but indeed they lead us to search for deeper meaning. In the brush moves there are countless tangible results which may be tracks of past or defined as his future life path. They live only the reality, vision and illusion. For all these reasons, the pictures of Zmago Puhar are popular while being so particularly innovative and always on his own recognizable.In addition to paint works in our area he has also contributed some beautiful graphic art works, including the awarded graphics "Silhouette" Kranj, which in 2007 won the competition for the best souvenir of the Municipality of Kranj. Unforgettable as well are his many posters for the puppet shows and various books, for which we know him as a witty caricaturist and an exceptional drawer.
Academic painter Zmago Puhar in December 2008 received the “Prešeren plaquette” - the highest art and culture award of the Municipality of Kranj, Slovenija. |
